Karen Porter, owner or North Star Sport Horse, started her business in 1982 as owner of Prestige Saddle, a fully stocked tack shop in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Prestige offered a diverse inventory to address the equestrian need of the area; from English, Western, Hunting, trail riding, Driving, and breeding. Tack, barn supplies, clothing, gifts, books, any item pertaining to horses and the lifestyle could be found there as well as in-house leather and tack repairs and blanket washing/repairing.

The demand for Karen’s expertise as a designer of custom saddles and a highly technical fitter grew throughout the years. Eventually the focus of Prestige Saddle became only custom saddles, bridles, flocking to fit, and proper accessories. Due to some naming restrictions, North Star Sport Horse Services, a division of Prestige Saddle was formed. Traveling to clients in the Mid-Atlantic region allows Karen to work with riders of many disciplines. Some of the highlights over the years have been working on saddles for an International 1 day/100 mile Endurance horse, Olympic riders, a mule, a full brother to Totilas, and almost every breed on the planet. The most amazing highlight Karen can claim is being invited into the stabling for the Lippizaners when they were in the U.S. on tour.

Karen is an independent saddle fitter. She has no quotas to meet so you will never be pressured to buy a new saddle. Her mission is always to improve your own saddle if possible, if that’s your goal. If she feels that is not possible, she will spend the time to explain and demonstrate the basis of her opinion to help you understand and enable you to decide your next course of action. She only sells saddles made in England, as she feels their design and construction enable her to achieve the best results for horse and rider.
